Students in the Food Service class at Cheshire High School are planning to bake a variety of cupcakes to help raise money at the Cheshire Education Foundation’s Trivia Challenge on March 26.
Two Cheshire High School seniors have joined the Cheshire Education Foundation board of directors as this year’s student ambassadors. They are Nadia Bauco and Vincent Cai.
College scholarships administered by the Cheshire Education Foundation (CEF) hit a new high-water mark in 2021 with $43,000 being awarded to 12 Cheshire High School seniors. This year the Balso Foundation Scholarships became the tenth program managed by CEF. “Our Board is honored to have been selected this year as the administrator of the Balso Foundation Scholarship,” said CEF Chairman Derek Gromko. “Balso has been providing financial assistance to CHS seniors since 1971, and we intend to continue this generous tradition for many years to come,” he said.
Science students at Cheshire High School this spring are using a set of 10 new digital microscopes that are opening their eyes to “a whole new universe.” That’s how CHS science chair Julie Barker describes the impact being made by the new equipment, purchased with a $3,000 grant from the Cheshire Education Foundation. “The students love it,” said Barker. “They enjoy the new technology and what they can do with it.”
Twenty-five years ago this month the Cheshire Education Foundation began serving the community by raising private funds to provide enhanced learning opportunities for students in the Cheshire Public Schools. In the years since 1995, the CEF has contributed well over a million dollars for projects and initiatives that would have been beyond the conventional budget resources of the public school system. And the scholarship programs administered by the foundation have helped more than 200 Cheshire High School graduates pay for their college educations.
This Cheshire High School classroom has been equipped with Extended Engagement technology that helps connect remote learners with their teacher and their peers who are in the classroom.
Thirteen Cheshire High School seniors have been selected to receive college scholarships administered by the Cheshire Education Foundation. “The Class of 2020 sadly may be missing out on many of the celebrations that traditionally mark the end of their high school careers, but we want to make sure that outstanding students are recognized and receive the financial assistance that they will need as they head off to college,” said Jane Leukart, CEF chair.
The third annual Cheshire Trivia Challenge hosted a record 28 teams of four and raised over $2,000 for the scholarships and programs of the Cheshire Education Foundation. Thanks to everyone who made this possible with their support. CEF board member Dennis Deninger was the “quizmaster.”
The Cheshire Education Board of Directors unanimously elected Derek Gromko as vice-chair at its November meeting. Gromko has been a member of the board for three years, and is the owner of the Gromko Insurance Agency in Cheshire.
CEF board chair Jane Leukart congratulated Gromko saying, “Derek’s enthusiasm and dedication to the Cheshire Education Foundation and to the students of the Cheshire Public Schools are apparent in all he does. The future of the foundation is in good hands with Derek as our vice chair.”
Two Cheshire High School students are joining the board of the Cheshire Education Foundation as ambassadors from the Cheshire public schools. Lucy Helene, a junior and RJ Streater, a senior, will participate in their first CEF board meeting in October. Lucy and RJ will help connect the charitable foundation board with the student population in Cheshire Public Schools.
